I think I want to hang the American Corporate Flag instead. Unfortunately, my neighbors might lynch me.

by blueviceroy inwe all have our own understanding of the christian belief , but i was wondering what others interpret the stories as .. and if it isn't what guides your journey what does?

I see the bible as semi-historical, mythological entertainment with some weird acid trips thrown into it.
If I didn't have anything else available for kindling, it wouldn't hurt my feelings to use one for that purpose, since they are so ubiquitous; however, it bothers my conscience to waste a tree or a cow making a bible more than it would bother me to use the cow or tree to make a book of science.

Who has been Disfellowshipped or Reproved the most times?
by oompa inmy diehard, hardcore, zealous, door knocking ex-wife has been disfellowshipped three times and reproved twice.
i think that is a lot of suffering for one life.
if it happens again, at least they don't have a name for it......oompa

it might be interesting to have a thread where you discuss a hobby, something interesting that happened in the past, somewhere you've been, etc.. not deep, dark confessions - just interesting stuff.. .

SO MUCH FOR PREVIOUS TRADITIONAL MORALS
by REBORNAGAIN inthe city of philadelphia has decided to punish the boy scouts of america because it will not allow homosexuals to serve as scout leaders.
city officials said they will charge the cradle of liberty scouts council $200,000 a year to use the city-owned headquarters.
the council was paying $1 per year (since 1928).

Why would you think natural affection would cause emotional/phychological damage to a child?
BFD
Isn't that what we're all trying to ask/answer in a million words or less?
I suspect the answer is somewhere between, "I don't know" and "gay people make me feel icky."

J-O,
Just wondering, if the child does get confused, why couldn't you un-confuse them? It's usually pretty easy for adults to un-confuse a 6-year-old.
Also, maybe you're not giving the 6-year-old enough credit for his/her natural, healthy, and irrepressible intuition about normal, healthy love.
I think that our cultural double-standards are the most confusing things of all.

Wow! Nobel Winner Says Blacks Less Intelligent
by Justitia Themis inhttp://www.cnn.com/2007/tech/science/10/18/science.race/index.html.
a british museum has canceled a lecture by dr. james watson, co-discoverer of the dna double helix, after he claimed black people are less intelligent than whites in a recent newspaper interview.. watson, who won the 1962 nobel prize for his part in discovering the structure of dna, provoked a storm of criticism after his comments were published in the sunday times.. the eminent biologist told the british newspaper he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours -- whereas all the testing says not really.".
watson, 79, had been due to give a lecture at london's science museum on friday but the museum canceled his appearance, saying his comments had "gone beyond the point of acceptable debate.".

Free Speech/Nathan
by Guest with Questions ini started this on another thread so a lot of it is in response to nathan's.. there is still free speech, even for christians.
a lot of people would like to take free speech away from christians; that we keep our mouths shut.
as americans, what do you think of the fairness doctrine that henry waxman wants to revive?

our belief is still a personal choice we make. And no matter which one it is, should be respected by others.
I feel sure this is an irrational precept.
Why should we respect that which has not been shown to be rational?
Just so you don't think I'm picking on xtianity, quite a few fundamentalists of a certain faith other than Xtianity believe that blowing up the twin towers was an act of god's will.
Just because jihad (Islamic or Christian) is a religious concept and some people personally agreed with it as personal religious belief, doesn't mean I need to respect it.
Just because the bible says such and such, doesn't mean I need to respect it.
The bible and many other religious scriptures contain enormously conflicting, violent, racist, sexist, and just-plain-silly laws, ideas, stories and concepts.
Just because some bearded, OCD, temporal-lobe disordered, so-called holy man wrote it down during a time when most people could not read or write, believing writing was some kind of magic - and declared it religion - doesn't mean I should respect it.
As far as I am concerned, that's what scripture is - inspired of superstion, ignorance, brainwashing and social control - NOT of any creator - other than humans.
If such strident rationality is offensive, I stand by my offensiveness.
